Improving your Resume Responses

Is your current resume not producing reponses from employers for the jobs you seek? While there are are many reasons why this happens, here are the three chief reasons:

i. Creating confidential online resumes. Find a way to get around this on most online forms using XXX's, Zeros or the words Upon Request, in the areas where you want personal infomation hidden. Doing that makes the online resume look visually completed.

Many managers will not open a confidentail resume- the word Confidential suggests - just looking not sure whether I am seeking a new position, or do not open, and that is just what managers will do!!
Remember information you leave out cannot be searched, so if you leave out the zip code or city, and the manager searches by zipcode and/or city your resume will not come up!!

ii Why add a list of key words to the bottom of your resume or cover letter area? Remember online resumes are often sourced by very busy HR personnel or by resume sourcing feeds, so your custom look resume may hurt you if they cannot find information quickly.
Key words will help you get selected - the whole point of the resume is to get the manager to contact you then you can dazzle them by sending your fabulous custom designed resume.

iii. If you believe that the responses to your resume are going into junk mail or being deleted altogether here are some suggestions:

For positions that you are really interested in, add the company to your Safe Senders List, for about six weeks or more to give them time to respond, after that time you may chose to delete it.

Remember to add the URL of the job board where you saw the job as the employer may be mailing through the job board.

Why add employers to your Safe Senders List?

Most email software platforms and ISPs now employ “spam filters” to block messages from senders unknown, or new senders. As a result, it is possible for email from trusted senders (including job boards such as FPSelectJobs.com, or companies to which you have applied to a position) to end up in your junk folder.

The only way to be sure you will continue receiving resume response email from job boards, trusted employers or resume response senders is to update your Address Book or Safe List.

For your convenience, here are instructions for adding senders to your Safe Senders List. Instructions cover most email service software platforms, ISPs and email platforms:
