Job Description

Akron , OH , United States   Develop verification and reliability test plans for the component and administrate the tests by working with test engineers. Use the reliability analysis methods to assess the component reliability.
Communicate the reliability goals to the suppliers and train them to become familiar with the reliability concepts if necessary. Report to the Reliability Engineering Manager in the Applied Systems Engineering Group.   Person must be able to take an ownership of the components in the entire development processes and provide suppliers with design ideas in electro-mechanical components. Develop component specifications by working together with product engineers in the new product introduction (NPI) team.
Working closely with suppliers assist them to develop highly reliable components that meet the specifications.   • JOB DURATION: full time   • COMPENSATION RANGE: 56000-80000/y

Job Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of 3 years in HVAC engineering or 3 years in component testing and verification in electromechanical components.
• BS in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited school.
• Knowledge and experience with electromechanical components including: electric expansion valves level sensors pressure sensors temperature sensors solenoid valves motors motor drives variable frequency drives contactors etc. All of these components are used on commercial chillers. They are all purchased from suppliers. Some components are developed by suppliers under the Company direction and other components are off the shelf.
• This person will need to be able to analyze the reliability of components by various reliability engineering techniques such as Weibull analysis accelerated life test (ALT) and highly accelerated life test (HALT). This person will also need to use various processes under DFSS such as QFD and D-FMEA.
• Communication skill in both writing and verbal is extremely important due to a diverse group of people that will be interacted. This person will need to be able to act effectively in both team leader and team member positions in a very diverse mid size team.
• Skills in mechanical and electrical design are highly desired. Knowledge of HVAC fundamentals is required. Highly organized and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Determine reliability sensitive components on commercial chillers and air handlers by working with reliability engineers.
• Determine the baseline reliability of the components and understand the failure modes and mechanisms.
• Develop component specifications and reliability goals by working with product engineers.
• Communicate the specifications to suppliers and develop component development plans.
• Define the component reliability through reliability and component verification tests.
• Assign testing responsibilities and follow up with the progress of the testing.
• Analyze the test results to measure the expected reliability quantitatively and communicate the results to the team members.
• Propose mechanical and electrical design changes to improve the reliability.
• Maintain the accurate schedules for the component development plans and communicate any delays to the team members promptly.
• Develop test plans and publish them to the engineering specification system.
• Train suppliers on reliability concepts and analysis methods.
• Confirm the expected reliability is obtained after production and determine the reasons for gaps between expected and actual reliability.
• 30 percent travel required
• 1 year in reliability analysis and/or Six Sigma DFSS.   • EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical or related field. An advanced degree is a plus.
