Experienced Neurosurgery Nurse or Physicians Assistant. Emphasis will be placed on direct patient care working in coordination with the staff surgeon house staff hospital staff and the patient. Perform and document preoperative evaluation (history and physical examinations) of neurosurgery patients. Week night and weekend in-hospital call coverage with support of house staff and staff surgeons. Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
- Emergency room call coverage for Level I Trauma - Examine and evaluate pre-operative and postoperative patients in in-hospital settings including but not limited to SICU TSICU inpatient floors emergency department and PACU - Write orders for medications therapies and treatments for neurosurgical patients - Perform invasive procedures such as placement of arterial and central venous lines ventricular camino bolts and lumbar drains and other invasive procedures such as lumbar punctures suturing and removing of the aforementioned lines - Work as 1st Assistant in Operating Room - Provide first line care for neurosurgical patients in critical care environment as well as on inpatient units - Write admission transfer and discharge orders including discharge summaries - Perform as a leader during daily rounds and delegates workload to other team members - Participates in monthly morbidity and mortality rounds and spine conference - Maintain and follows patient care protocols - Work in collaboration with staff surgeon and house staff in educating the patients and their families in medical care - Work with staff in providing patient care in the following locations: the intensive care units ( SICU MICU) Neurosurgical Nursing Units PCU and staff neurosurgeons clinical practice area - Update clinical knowledge and skills through consultation formal and informal education and review of literature. Requirements: - 3-5 years experience as PA or NP with part of that time dealing with highly acute patients on a surgical service is strongly preferred - Excellent interpersonal skills in working with professional and non-professional staff in providing patient care - Must be able to work independently displaying initiative and appropriate judgment as well as a team member of Neurosurgery team in providing a collaborative approach to patient care.
