Conduct a wide range of evaluations of non-metallic and metallic materials including adhesives, polymers, paints, bonded panels, metal, metal coating, and process solutions. Perform tests in accordance with industry standards and customer material specifications.
Assist in the testing, calibration, and equipment upkeep. Responsible for producing legally defensible and traceable test results. Review certifications and assess and approve for conformance to specification. Provide technical assistance to customers and co-workers, with focus on quality, standardization, and continuous improvement. This position will work closely with the department supervisor in facilitating the preparation of test specimens and testing in order to meet customer turn time and requests.
Perform evaluations in accordance with company goals, quality system, and test procedures/methods. Use of instrumentation for measuring and recording: dimensional measuring, temperature, load, shear, hardness, and chemistry titrations. Review and develop procedures for testing and/or sample preparation. Offer technical assistance to customers in testing selection and results interpretation, including technical review, material selection and defect analysis
Train and review performance tests completed by Technicians, Analysts, and Engineers. Recommend them for qualification and outsource tests that cannot be completed in lab.
Provide instruction to Technicians on proper preparation of materials.
Interpret specifications/standards to ensure correct application to testing.
Able to assist in preparation of technical reports in accordance with an A2LA 17025, QS-9001 Quality Assurance Program.
Review and approve test reports for accuracy, completeness, and consistency to specification requirements.
Perform technical review and contract review prior to evaluations.
Participate in team-oriented discussions to decrease turn time, reduce cost, reduce waste, and meet or exceed customer expectations.
Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives including 5S and Operational Excellence.
Provide engineering guidance when questions arise. Work with team members to resolve problems and create best practices.
Conduct research and implement ideas to improve the use of new technology in the department.
Requirements: • 3 years procurement/purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in all aspects of warehousing and materials management including planning and logistics of warehouse management/inventory methods and computer systems. • Previous experience in all areas of aluminum transformation - design and manufacturing – including casting, rolling, extruding, and finishing are highly preferred.
• EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering, or equivalent
