The design manager will manage the day to day of the design process of standard stores from schematic design development through construction complete. This includes coaching / mentoring of the design team as required. 1. Mentoring designers / consultants in producing schematic and design development drawings. 2. Supporting designers in standard high profile and or special projects, developments and processes. 3. Coaching the designers in landlord approvals / Architectural Review Board processes. 4. Own and manage the design workload schedule. 5. Review designer or consultants schematic design plans through weekly schematic review meetings. 6. Influence design direction as needed to designers / architects during the construction document phase - encourage problem solving of conditions that may hinder standard design intent. 7. Support the designers in real estate landlord and or building department issues to ensure implementation of design intent. 8. Attend weekly brand meeting with the Director of Design to present schematic designs and solicit feedback. 9. Communicate any design intent and or milestones to brand by supporting the Director of Design in presenting and creating presentations for executive leadership. 10. Initiate and manage project meetings. Meeting participants may include SD&C team members architects Brand and or Center functions that have involvement with the project design. 11. Translate design intent and maintain a set of design guidelines for consistent rollout of stores. 12. Design Team / Architect on boarding resource to answer questions and facilitate feedback. 13. Travel as necessary to help manage projects.
Requirements: - A minimum of 7 yrs of experience in a corporate retail design environment or Architecture office. (Retail experience preferred) - Very strong design skills in generating and managing design concepts. - Very strong verbal and visual communication skills. - Excellent presentation skills with previous experience presenting to Companies and diverse audiences. - Strong people management and development skills. - Experience in developing and managing high performance teams. - Experience in architectural detailing. - Ability to handle multiple tasks and competing deadlines. - Self-starter capable of working with minimal direction. - Highly proficient in AutoCAD and must have experience in Photoshop / Indesign.
• EDUCATION: Bachelor or Masters of Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited institution.
